im confused. So who does the monarchy trace their ancestry back to? Did this Windsor family usurp the throne at some point? Are they not descendant­s of those medieval English kings too? I'm sure there are other "British citizens" today who are of other European ancestry. And about Moirrissey being spot on..... the Queen barely has any major say in how England is run, how in God's name does she stifle free speech? Does she kill her own people, tax them to support her? The government is the one choosing to keep the monarchy around because 1. The British people LOVE LOVE their monarchy and 2. they have usually been good ambassador­s for the UK as a whole. There are other common wealth nations that still choose to recognize the queen. If she were so evil and comparable to Ghadaffi or Mubarak I'm sure states like Canada would have disconnect­ed with her and her family. I just don't get the comparison at all. You can have a problem with her taking government money and what not but don't make stupid comparison­s. To be fair, it was the monarchy that extended British rule far and wide making them the dominant power in the world before the US. Now everyone goes oh ur taking government money, they gave England its pride and prestige and YES wealth. The initial wealth of the region the monarchy STOLE from other regions and brought into their region.
